Damage to clutch from grinding?

If you drive a car for 2 miles somewhat hard (inexperienced?) and are having some trouble getting the car into 1st, resulting in the engine revving up or past 30,000 rpm and a bad smell when you get out of the car, how much has that one trip damaged the car? Could you take tens of thousands of miles off of the life of the clutch in 2 miles or would the damage be negligible if only done once? The car did not stall out and was fine once it got past 1st. Note: sources would be very useful here. Thanks!
