Small wedding ideal a bad one?

So my FI and I will have to pay for our wedding. He doesnt care what we do but I am afraid both his family and mine will freak out when they hear my ideal. I want to invite 50 of our friends and family for a nice dinner at an upscale restaurant and possibly get married in the adjoining room or already be married in a civil ceremony. No wedding dress, no wedding type frills. Honestly I have been a bridesmaid seven times and the thrill of a wedding is over for me. Neither of us has been married before and we dont have any children and are both approaching 30 and that's throwing my grandma for a loop. She told me I am disappointing the family and GOD. Do you think my decision is a bad one?
