Why can't I claim these moving expenses?

My husbands company relocated us. They paid for the movers. On our w2 they put the cost of the move which is in his Gross. We are told we can't claim anything that was paid by the company. How is this right since it in on our taxes as wages? If we claimed aren't we paying it technically?
