Does Eric Northman still care for Sookie Stackhouse?

I mean in the True Blood Season 3 promo for episode 6 you see Sookie Stackhouse tied up to a chair and Eric Northman is harshly saying, "you mean nothing to me understand nothing" and also in promo how he forces her in front of the King of Mississippi saying " I dont know what is but i know its valuable" with a smile is he just doing this because he want to save Pam from her second and final death or does he truly mean it? I find it hard to believe do to the fact in episode 2 how he says " Oh I'm not leaving your going to invite me so i can protect or have pionate primal with you i want both" with a smile and he has saved her life 2 times and how he tricks her into drinking her blood in season 2 he wanted that so he could have a better chance of her becoming him human and so he could protect etc. and its obvious in the first season he wanted her from the start and remember when he was deciding bills punishment for killing that vampire in sookies defense how bill says " what do you have in mind?" eric replies by saying "i'll take the girl" and also in season 3 episode 3 he says "your no good to me or to bill if your dead" what do you think?
